James Bardwell is an inspired life force and osteopathic medical student at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia. Prior to starting medical school, he had worked for over 15 years as an accomplished professional and change catalyst in development, manufacturing and regulatory compliance to support different pharmaceutical and medical device products, spanning therapeutic areas within infection prevention, cardiovascular, surgical, urological and gastroenterology. James has been issued U.S. patents as well as several patent applications pending for novel chemistry and engineering ideas applied to medical instruments and technologies. Since 2004, he has served as the Gastroenterology Subcommittee Chairman for the international testing and standards organization ASTM, responsible for standards/testing development, maintenance and industry collaboration within the therapeutic area. As an athlete, James was a professional handball player from 2003-2004 on the Simple Green Pro Handball Tour. He continues to enjoy handball, “the perfect game”, as well as cycling, swimming, weight training and walking. When time permits, he also enjoys reading, music, cooking, traveling, art, cinema and volunteering. James speaks several languages and was blessed with the opportunity to learn Spanish as an adult without ever taking a class. Immersed in Latin culture over the last 12 years living at the U.S. – Mexico border, he continues to learn how specific cultural aspects and needs affect medical care and outcomes in different geographic areas. Furthermore, James is a testicular cancer survivor and unwavering advocate of holistic health, inspired living and accountable lifestyles. His philosophy of wellness, health and living is based on the osteopathic trinity of mind, body and spirit, seeking to balance life’s forces and energies to guide others to find their own optimal living zone.
